"It's crucial that our young (and not so young) filmmakers and creatives get the support they need.
Independent filmmakers are our storytellers-and for too long our stories have been told in a narrow and limited sense that doesn't allow an accurate picture of this place. Independent films are our chance to give voice to who we are now, as well as our past and our future.
They are a vital part of allowing Scotland’s voices ( be they funny, tragic, musical or romantic) to be heard across the world but just as importantly for the audience here at home too."Elaine C. Smith
Film Industry Scotland (FIS) is a community interest company based in Scotland for Scottish filmmakers at all levels. Whether you’re starting out or looking to develop your skills and build a reputation, FIS is for you. It is run by filmmakers for filmmakers. We are very proud to have Alex Norton as our patron.
Following research into the needs and issues of independent filmmakers in Scotland, FIS formed three aims:
- To help source and connect independent filmmakers with funding and provide regular funding for independent filmmakers through paid membership of FIS.
- To create a central online hub through FIScotland.com to connect filmmakers with information, networking events, news and for promotion and marketing of films.
- To build a connected film industry that encourages talent to stay and develop, putting Scotland on the map as having an established and thriving film industry.
FIS aims to raise the level of investment and representation in the Scottish film industry, encouraging more funding to be invested in Scottish talent. FIS also aims to offer networking services and better representation of Scottish independent filmmakers in the film industry both nationally and internationally.
FIS was started by a group of people working in the Scottish film industry who were frustrated by the lack of funding, opportunity and career development in Scotland. Although there are many organisations that exist to assist filmmakers, it can be difficult to find the necessary information. FIS aims to bring all that information together in one place.
Film Industry Scotland is a community interest company registered with Companies House in Scotland - SC519025.
